Atlas Welding Supply Celebrates National Welding Month

Did you know April is National Welding Month? Atlas is joining the American Welding Society (AWS) to raise awareness of the welding industry and its integral role in keeping people safe and advancing the quality of life across the world.

About the Welding Industry

Welding is a fabrication process when two or more parts are fused together by means of heat, pressure or both forming a join as the parts cool. Welding is usually used on metals and thermoplastics but can also be used on wood.

While welding careers play a key role, the participation in skilled trades continues to decrease. In fact, a shortage of 400,000 workers is predicted by 2024. As older welders begin reaching retirement age, younger welders are not replacing them fast enough. A career in welding gives you the opportunity to work with your hands, be outside and travel with great income potential.

A Career in Welding

Skilled trades, like welding, give individuals without a four-year college degree the opportunity to earn a decent salary. Most welding opportunities require a high school diploma as well as technical and on-the-job training. Plus, earning a professional welding certification can reward you in significant ways, including higher salary potential, stronger employment demand and better job stability.

Not only do you not need a college degree to become a welder, but you also do not have to worry about a lack of opportunity. Welders are in demand in a variety of industries. Welders often work in industries such as sales, project management, education, engineering, inspection and robotics.

The National Welding Academy

Are you interested in a career in welding? Atlas is a proud supporter and supplier of the National Welding Academy. Located in Moundville, Alabama, the welding academy aims to combat the welding shortage with an educational method that expedites the welding training process by eliminating unrelated core academic classes.
