Argon Gas Mixtures for Welding

A blend of 55% argon, 35% oxygen and 10% carbon dioxide is one example of a reliable shielding gas when working with carbon steel. Use it for all metal transfer modes in MIG welding applications. This mixture generates strong weld mechanical properties and reliable arc characteristics. 

A precisely controlled blend of these gases can join various stainless steel materials. It performs well in all welding positions and metal transfer types. Nitrogen’s introduction to the mixture optimizes performance by enhancing stability, improving weld penetration and minimizing distortion in the welded workpiece. Good corrosion resistance is another benefit.

An argon and helium mixture is an excellent choice for applications requiring higher heat characteristics. A blend of 75% argon and 25% helium can also increase travel speed in gas tungsten arc welding processes.

A mixture of 90% helium, 7.5% argon and 2.5% carbon dioxide is an excellent choice for short-arc stainless steel welding in all positions. The carbon dioxide component minimizes carbon pickup and improves corrosion resistance, particularly in multipass welds. The high helium content increases heat input.
